We choose to offer our lowest and best price to everyone every day. We know that makes us different. So, we wanted to take some time to explain why. The mattress industry is full of big, flashy sales every weekend. But since most people only shop for a mattress once per decade, you might not understand that these sales are one of the many high-pressure sales techniques used by the industry to convince you to buy as soon as possible. After all, you don’t want to miss out on this “today-only sale,” right? We’ve never felt like that was the right way to do business. We never want our customers to feel pressured into making a decision if they’re not really ready. And we’d rather be honest and transparent about our prices.  ## **The factory-direct difference** If you start to pay attention to what goes on in the mattress industry, you’ll start to notice that [most mainstream mattress retailers are *always* having a sale](https://blog.originalmattress.com/5-ways-the-mattress-industry-tries-to-confuse-you). Most mattress retailers operate as what we like to call the “middle man.” They purchase mattresses from all the major, mainstream brands, and add a huge retail markup. Then, they put them on “sale,” so that mattress shoppers feel like they’re getting a great deal. They tell you that you’re getting 50 percent off. But if that original price was never real, are you really getting the best value? At The Original Mattress Factory, we make our own mattresses and sell them in our own stores. [Because of this factory-direct model](https://blog.originalmattress.com/how-buying-factory-direct-can-save-you-money), we’re not adding on a retail markup to the price of our mattresses and box springs. That means that you can get a hand-built, high-quality mattress at a great value. You can only purchases OMF mattresses from an Original Mattress Factory location. ## **Transparency is at the core of who we are** It would be easy for us to artificially inflate our prices. We could pretend to tack on an extra 20%, then hold a “big sale” each weekend to bring in the crowds. But that’s not who we are, that’s not what we’re about, and that’s not what you deserve. We know not everyone is going to understand it, but we believe it’s a better way to run a business. Instead, we’re open and honest about our prices. If you found something you liked, but you’re not quite ready to make the commitment, that’s OK — it will be the same price tomorrow, or next week, or next month. That’s because we never want a “today-only sale” to pressure you into making a decision when you may not be ready.
