Why we believe in American-made products

At The Original Mattress Factory, we believe in American-made products. Our local approach has been key to our business model from the very beginning. All of our retail locations are satellites around our 12 factory locations. When you purchase from one of our stores, your new mattress will be hand built right there in your hometown.

We wanted to take this opportunity to explain why we have chosen to manufacture our products in the U.S. and why that decision is important to our customers, employees, and communities.

Quality and safety standards

Products that are manufactured in the U.S. must adhere to strict quality and safety standards. This is especially true when it comes to mattresses, which are strictly regulated by the federal government.

However, cheap foam mattresses from overseas have flooded the market in recent years. You can find these mattresses for sale on major online websites for rock-bottom prices. But these mattresses may not adhere to the same standards of those manufactured here in the U.S. When you spend one third of your life on your mattress, it’s important that you can trust that it was built with your safety in mind. Many parents are focused on getting a good price for their child’s first “big kid” mattress, but you’ll also want to make sure it’s safe.

Whenever possible, we source the materials used to make our mattresses and box springs from suppliers in the U.S. too. From foam and cotton upholstery to steel springs to the wooden frames in our box springs, each are manufactured in the U.S. We could find these materials for cheaper elsewhere, but we believe that our customers deserve the best — and that begins with the highest-quality materials.

Investments into our communities

Buying American-made products is also a direct investment into our communities. Over the years, many manufacturing operations have moved overseas in search of cheaper labor, leaving many local communities without valuable employment opportunities.
