Why we don’t make mattress recommendations based on sleep position

Customers often ask us for specific mattress recommendations based on their preferred sleep position. Such recommendations are common in the mattress industry. There are plenty of mattress companies that claim to be able to select the perfect product for you based on a simple questionnaire.

When it comes to a preferred sleeping position, we can make broad generalizations: side sleepers tend to like something a bit softer, while back and stomach sleepers generally like firmer mattresses. But that’s certainly not true for everyone — and everyone’s perception of what is “soft” or “firm” varies widely.

Everyone’s comfort and support needs are unique. There is no one-size-fits-all mattress (or even a one-size-fits-most mattress). The best way to find the right one for you is by testing them out for as long as possible. We always recommend spending at least 15 minutes in your natural sleeping position before making your final selection.
