Mattress size guide: Which size is right for you?

Mattress size guide

When you’re shopping for a new mattress, choosing the right size is vital to ensuring you will be comfortable at night. You need to make sure you and anyone with whom you share a bed can stretch out comfortably.

While we’ll be primarily discussing the length and width of your mattress, it’s also important to keep mattress height in mind. You want to make sure you can get in and out of bed comfortably. Many mattresses are quite thick, so you may want to consider a low-profile 5-inch box spring (compared to a standard 8-inch box spring) or bunk board to lower your total bed height by a few inches.

And no matter what size you’re considering, we highly recommend that you pair your new mattress with a new, flexing box spring and a heavy duty frame.

Twin: 38 x 75 inches (±1.5 inches)twin mattress dimensions

While twin-size beds are commonly used for children and teens, all of our twin-size mattresses provide adult-level support so they can be a great fit for anyone.

Twin XL: 38 x 80 inches (±1.5 inches)twin XL mattress dimensions

Twin XL beds are common in college dorms and apartments. They provide a bit of

extra length that can be valuable for adults.

If you put two twin XL mattresses together, it will equal a split king. This can be a great option for adjustable bases, but it’s also an option for a couple that has different comfort preferences. If this is an option you choose, you’ll want to keep the thickness of each mattress in mind so that you don’t have a big difference in the surface height of each side. We do offer options like low-profile box springs and bunk boards that may help address this issue.

Full: 53 x 75 inches (±1.5 inches)full mattress dimensions

A full size is a great option for single sleepers who want a little extra room or couples who may not have space in their room for a queen or king.

We highly recommend you use a heavy-duty frame that features a center rail with a foot that touches the floor for support.

For full-size sets, you can choose a split box spring which can make transport and set up easier in houses and apartments with tight hallways, stairways, and doorways. You can also request that we hinge your mattress so that it can be folded in half from head to foot in either direction for easier transport (see image below for reference).

Queen: 60 x 80 inches (±1.5 inches)queen mattress dimensions

The queen is the most common bed size as it offers plenty of room for two adults to comfortably sleep without taking up too much space in a smaller bedroom.

We highly recommend you use a heavy-duty frame that features a center rail with a foot that touches the floor for support.

For queen-size sets, you can choose a split box spring which can make transport and set up easier in houses and apartments with tight hallways, stairways, and doorways. King: 76 x 80 inches (±1.5 inches)king mattress dimensions

The king is the largest standard size, providing plenty of room for two adults to stretch out and get comfortable — all with some extra space to accommodate a child or pet.

We highly recommend you pair your new mattress with a real working box spring, as well as a heavy-duty frame that features a center rail with a foot that touches the floor for support.

All of our king-size mattresses come standard with a hinge that allows them to be folded in half from head to foot in either direction. King-size sets also come standard with split box springs.

California king: 72 x 84 inches (±1.5 inches)california king mattress dimensions

Many people believe that California king is the largest mattress size, but it actually has a smaller total area than a king. However, it does provide a bit of extra length which can be great for those sleepers who are taller than average.

We highly recommend you pair your new mattress with a real working box spring, as well as a heavy-duty frame that features a center rail with a foot that touches the floor for support.

All of our California king-size mattresses come standard with a hinge that allows them to be folded in half from head to foot in either direction. California king-size sets also come standard with split box springs.
